Job Strategy Presentation Assignment

To be presented Wednesday, Jan. 27, during class.

Present your job strategy report to the class as a 5-7 minute powerpoint presentation.

Guidelines for the PowerPoint (or Keynote) layout and design:

  1. Use approximately 8-12 slides, total.
  2. Use bullet points with keywords and short phrases, no full sentences.
  3. Keep each slide simple and to the point. Avoid cluttering it with too much information per slide. (Aim for approx. 2-3 main points with 2-3 sub-points per slide.)
  4. Choose a clean, professional-looking design from the options available in your software.
  5. Place your presentation file on a USB thumbdrive, so that you can present it using my computer.

The content of the presentation should include:

  1. Title slide with your name and "Job Strategy" or "Career Strategy." (1 slide)
  2. Career Option #1. Brief description of your first career option, what it entails, and why you are interested in it. (1 slide)
  3. Job Outlook & Education and Skills Required (as in your job report).
  4. (1 slide)

  5. Competitive Edge (as in your job report). (1 slide)
  6. Two job ads, summarized in a slide each. (2 slides)
  7. Your strategy for positioning yourself to apply for such positions. (1 slide)
  8. Your people resources. (1 slide)
  9. Career Option #2. Brief description and reason(s) for considering it as a second option. (1 slide)
  10. A brief overview of your strategy for pursuing this option. (1-2 slides)

Presentation Skills to remember:

  1. Stand squarely on both feet.
  2. Make good eye contact with audience members.
  3. Smile. Communicate energy and enthusiasm.
  4. Speak loudly and clearly.
  5. Keep hands and body still and controlled. (You may wish to rest hands on edges of lectern to help with this.)
  6. Speak in full sentences. Use the powerpoint to give visual emphasis to your own words, but do not read from it.
  7. Be certain what your last words will be. Plan them, and end with confidence. (An example: "That’s my strategy in a nutshell. Thank you.")
