The Oklahoma Wesleyan University Library provides books, periodicals, audiovisual materials and equipment, and other items for the Oklahoma Wesleyan University campus. In order to keep an accurate record of these materials and equipment, the following rules govern their usage.
Check-Out Policies
Circulating books may be checked out for two weeks, with one additional week grace period. If materials are kept overdue beyond the grace period, a fine of $.15 per day will be assessed retroactive to the first day overdue, including the grace period.
Periodicals may be checked out for three days, with no grace period. All overdue periodicals will be charged a fine of $1.00 per day.
Audiovisual materials (i.e. videos, DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs, audio books, cassette tapes, etc.) may be checked out for 3 days, with no grace period. All overdue audiovisual materials will be charged a fine of $1.00 per day.
Laptop computers may be checked out to be used in the library only and must be returned during the same day that they are checked out. Laptop computers removed from the facility without permission will be charged a $100.00 per day fine. All laptops not returned to the circulation desk and found unsupervised in the Library will be charged a $50.00 fine. Students will be asked to give their OkWU student identification cards to the circulation desk as a deposit before checking out a laptop.
Materials not returned by the end of the semester will be considered lost. The Library will submit a bill to the Business Office charging the student’s account as follows:
• A minimum replacement fee of $30.00, and a maximum replacement fee equal to the cost of item.
• A $10.00 handling charge.
If the lost item is found and returned, the replacement fee will be canceled; however, the accrued fines will be charged up to $15.00, plus the $10.00 handling charge.
Renewals and Recalls
Materials may be renewed unless another patron needs the item. The Library reserves the right to recall any item that needs to be returned upon notification (in writing, by phone, or otherwise). We request that recalled items be returned as soon as possible, even though the item is not yet due. Failure to respond will necessitate the assessment of a fine of $.15 per day from the date of recall.
Reserve Materials
Reserve materials may be checked out according to the time limits placed on each item by the faculty member placing the item on reserve. A student may not check out more than two reserve items per class at the same time. $1.00 per day will be charged for overdue reserve materials with no grace period allowed.
Lost reserve book and periodical charges will be the same as lost circulating materials with reserve material fines applicable. Lost Xerox copies will be charged a maximum of $5.00 and a $10.00 processing fee.
Periodicals
The Library houses periodicals in three formats: bound volumes, microfiche, and paper issues. Many periodical articles are also available on the Library’s paid subscription databases. These databases are accessible online from any Internet-accessible computer on the campus network. If trying to access the databases from off campus, please contact the Library for specific instructions for logging into the databases. A copy machine is available in the Library to make copies of articles.
Audiovisual Materials and Equipment
Audiovisual materials include videos, DVDs, CDs, audio books, cassette tapes, and other materials. Audiovisual equipment includes slide projectors, overhead projectors, tape player/recorders, and other equipment.
Unauthorized Removal of Materials from the Library
Any student found in possession of any materials (reference books, periodicals, etc.) or equipment that has not been properly checked out will be fined a minimum of $10.00 but not more than $50.00 upon the immediate return of the materials. Materials not returned or damaged and mutilated materials will have fines assessed commensurate with the cost of repair or replacement.
Library Services
Laminating:
Laminating may be requested at the Library for a small fee. Fees may be paid by the individual or charged to a division. Please allow at least five business days for laminating to be completed.
Video Dubbing:
Video dubbing is available through the Library. Please bring a blank video for recordings transferred from a small video tape. Please allow at least three business days for video dubbing to be completed.
Borrower Responsibilities
Returning Library materials on time will be the responsibility of the borrower, not the responsibility of the Library. The Library staff will send overdue notices whenever time permits.
Community Borrowers
We welcome all members of the Bartlesville community to use the Library resources in house for research and study; however, because of specific agreements with vendors and other libraries, off campus access is not available to community borrowers for the following services:
1. Database usage
2. Interlibrary loan
A one-time $25 processing fee will be charged to community borrowers who wish to check out books. Five books may be checked out at one time. Community borrowers will be subject to all the Library’s policies, including returning materials on time and paying appropriate fines when items become overdue. Letters will periodically be sent out to community borrowers to inquire of their preference to renew their library card. Inactive accounts will be closed if there is no response.
